After dropping her debut single “drivers license” this past weekend, it’s safe to say that we have all fallen in love with Olivia Rodrigo.

Listen to your favorite Pop music now on RADIO.COM.

The first song the 17-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star has released independently of the show, “drivers license,” took all of 48 hours to reach the No. 1 spot on both Spotify and Apple Music's global streaming charts. Additionally, claiming the No. 3 spot on the iTunes chart, just below Taylor Swift.

Besides absolute chart domination, since the moving power ballad’s release Olivia has had us collectively crying and singing along, while simultaneously cursing the boy who broke her heart.

Similar to many of Swift's heartbreak hits, Rodrigo's "drivers license" had fans ready with torches and pitchforks, wondering who the song could be about. With not much remaining unknown since the invention of the internet, it didn’t take long for the theories to start.

As the song tells a story of her tearfully driving past her ex’s house, after having finally obtained her driver’s license, as the two had planned to celebrate the accomplishment. However, the monumental moment’s excitement quickly turned to heartbreak, as the relationship had ended. Olivia sings, “You were so excited for me to finally drive up to your house / But today I drove through the suburbs, crying because you weren’t around.”

In fact the ex in question has moved on to an older blonde that she reveals is “everything I’m insecure about.” Many believe the ex in the song to be Olivia’s HSMTMTS costar and possibly ex-boyfriend IRL, Joshua Bassett.

Olivia and Joshua, who play love interests on HSMTMTS, were rumored to be dating within the past year, however never publicly confirmed. Now the internet alleges that Bassett has moved on to blonde beauty Sabrina Carpenter.

Lets see, Sabrina’s 21 years-old and Olivia is 17, which makes her older. Also, Sabrina is blonde and Olivia is not, so yup it checks. In addition, Joshua and Sabrina appear to have been spending time together over the past few months, spotted during public outing and even dressing up for Halloween in a couple's costume as Sharkboy and Lavagirl, as seen on Bassett's TikTok.

With Rodrigo admitting to fans on TikTok that the song was inspired by her experience of driving "alone thru the suburbs crying,” plus all the additional semi-circumstantial evidence listed above, we’re leaning towards believing the hype. What about you?

Check out “drivers license” above and judge for yourself, but grab a box of tissues first, tears are inevitable.
